Global Soil Data Map: Check Soil Properties for Any Location

Published May 8, 2026 · 5 min read

Soil composition is the foundation of agricultural productivity, ecosystem health, and sustainable land management. Traditionally, acquiring detailed soil data required expensive laboratory testing or navigating complex GIS databases. Now, PixelGust brings high-resolution global soil data directly to your browser, allowing anyone to assess soil properties instantly for any location on Earth.

The Soil Panel is now live on PixelGust! Open the Dashboard, click any location or draw a polygon, and enable the Soil panel to see detailed soil texture, organic carbon, and pH data.

What Soil Properties Can You Check?

PixelGust provides a comprehensive suite of soil metrics for the topsoil layer (0-5cm), crucial for assessing land viability:

Soil Texture (Sand, Silt, and Clay)

The physical composition of soil determines its water retention, drainage capacity, and aeration.

Why Soil Data Matters

Agriculture and Precision Farming

Farmers and agronomists use soil texture and pH data to optimize crop selection, irrigation scheduling, and fertilizer application. By understanding the baseline soil properties, agricultural operations can increase yield while reducing resource waste. Combined with historical weather data, soil data provides a complete picture of agricultural potential.

Real Estate and Land Feasibility

When evaluating rural land for purchase or development, soil quality is a primary value driver. Land buyers use PixelGust's soil data to quickly rule out parcels with poor drainage (high clay), excessive rockiness (coarse fragments), or severe acidity.

Environmental Conservation

Soil organic carbon data is crucial for carbon sequestration projects. Conservationists use soil metrics alongside NDVI vegetation analysis and land cover data to monitor ecosystem degradation and plan restoration efforts.

How to Check Soil Data on PixelGust

  1. Open the dashboard at pixelgust.com/app.
  2. Select a location on the map, draw a polygon around your property, or enter coordinates manually.
  3. Enable the Soil panel — the complete suite of soil properties will appear instantly.
  4. For Polygons: If you draw a polygon, PixelGust calculates zonal statistics, showing the mean, minimum, and maximum values across the entire selected area.

Data Sources

PixelGust's soil data is powered by SoilGrids (ISRIC - World Soil Information). SoilGrids provides global predictions for standard numeric soil properties at a 250m spatial resolution. It uses state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to map soil properties based on global compilations of soil profile data and environmental covariate layers.
